What are the brokerage fees for shipments
going to the US? Government regulations allow shipments valued
at $200 USD or less to cross the Canada – US border without
incurring brokerage fees. However, for orders over $200 USD,
shipping companies seem to charge a brokerage fee on their least
expensive shipping method. (On more expensive services such as
overnight deliveries, brokerage fees are included in the price,
although the price is greater than the cheapest method plus the
brokerage fee, combined). UPS has competitive rates (FedEx's
are
very similar) and their
brokerage fees are as follows (April/2008):
-
$0 to $200 USD worth of
items crossing border = No charge
-
$200 to $1,250 USD =
$23.75 USD Brokerage fee
-
$1,250 to $2,000 USD =
$35.00 USD Brokerage fee
-
Each additional
$1,000 or part thereof = $1.70 USD Brokerage fee
- What will
my shipping charges be? We are happy to use whichever carrier
you wish. Just let us know. We currently use UPS for most of our US
shipments. As note above, brokerage fees are charged (by the
shipping company) on shipments valued at $200 USD or more. Contact
us for a quote on shipping charges.
Note: Catalog
prices do not include taxes, shipping or broker fees. These fees will be
prepaid and added to your invoice (called, Free Domicile). You will be billed
for these fees on your original invoice. If not, such as when prepaying, you will
receive notification on your original invoice that charges will follow,
and they will be billed within 60 days. And don't worry, export documents
we prepare for US shipments are
provided at no additional cost!
